What a Northern Lights holiday costs

Checked October 2026

Your price depends on how many nights you stay, the month, where you fly from and what is included. Our travel team at The JLT Group quotes your actual trip, so this page shows what to compare.

Northern Lights Escapes shows what builds the price, so you can read a quote line by line. Every page is built from operator pages and official sources, and dated. Our travel team at The JLT Group quotes and books your trip.

Read the inclusions first. Arctic Direct's three-night Inari example includes return flights from Gatwick to Ivalo. Transfers and full board are in. So are thermal clothing and five timed activities.

Then look at what sits outside. The Aurora Zone says travel insurance isn't included. It can add a flight supplement if fares climb above its allowance.

How much does a Northern Lights holiday cost from the UK?

It depends on the trip, so treat any figure as one operator's example, not our price. Sellers price on different bases, so never line one seller's figure up against another's.

  • Best Served listed a four-day Tromsø trip from £1,510 per person, including flights, on 15 October 2026.

Use it to see the kind of figure a quote starts from. A "from" figure is the lowest the operator shows. Your dates and choices set the real one.

Our travel team quotes your own trip. That quote covers your dates, your airport and your choices.

What moves the price most?

Nights, month, airport and inclusions move it most.

Nights. More nights cost more, and they also buy more chances. The Aurora Zone says "a single cloudy evening can ruin a one-night Aurora hunt" (more on how many nights for the Northern Lights). It runs short breaks of three, four or five nights. It describes those as giving you several goes, with daytime left for the place.

Month. The festive weeks are in demand. Best Served says its highlights sell out months ahead, especially over Christmas and New Year. The Aurora Zone says autumn has fewer crowds than Christmas and the winter peak.

Airport. Flights are a big part of the bill. The Aurora Zone can add a flight supplement if fares climb above its allowance. It says a land-only version can be requested, if you'd rather book your own flights.

What's included. Sellers bundle things differently. Arctic Direct says its prices include flights, transfers, accommodation and activities. Best Served's cards say "incl. flights" trip by trip.

Watch the extras, too. The Aurora Zone says single supplements apply. Some sit on activities such as snowmobiling. Activities you book after you arrive are paid locally. They fall outside the operator's responsibility.

Watch the calendar as well. The Aurora Zone wants the balance 16 weeks before departure. If you book inside 16 weeks, it wants full payment.

How much do 3 nights in Lapland cost?

It depends on what's inside the three nights. So check what the quote holds.

Arctic Direct's three-night Inari example shows what one trip can hold:

  • return flights from Gatwick to Ivalo
  • transfers
  • one night in a glass-roof cabin and two in a wilderness room
  • full board
  • thermal clothing
  • five timed activities

Now check the gaps. Is insurance included? The Aurora Zone says it isn't on its trips. Are single supplements added? Is there a flight supplement if fares rise? When is the balance due?

Ask those four questions of any quote. Then you're comparing like with like. The full list is on what's included in a Northern Lights holiday.

Is Tromsø or Iceland expensive?

Norway is the most expensive Nordic country, says The Aurora Zone. Here's how its FAQ page, read on 15 October 2026, sees each country:

  • Norway. The most expensive Nordic country, with heavily taxed alcohol.
  • Iceland. It puts each pint at about £7 and each glass of wine at about £9.
  • Finland. It puts each glass of wine at £6 to £8.
  • Sweden. It puts each glass of wine at £7 to £8 and each pint at about £6.

So budget for the bar. The Aurora Zone says none of its holidays is all-inclusive. Drinks are yours to cover.

What is the cheapest way to see them?

Pick your timing and country with cost in mind. The Aurora Zone says autumn has fewer crowds than Christmas, with milder conditions. Best Served says its highlights sell out months ahead, especially over Christmas and New Year.

Norway costs the most to be in, on The Aurora Zone's reading.

Getting a quote

Our travel team quotes your actual trip. The form asks for a rough budget per person, so the quote starts in the right place.

When the quote arrives, check the basis first. Arctic Direct states "per person, two sharing" on its Inari page. Travelling alone? Ask about the single supplement. Then check the airport. Arctic Direct's example flies from Gatwick, so a regional airport may change it.

Sort the insurance early, too. The Aurora Zone makes insurance a pre-requisite. It says it doesn't check outside policies. It suggests running through every activity with the seller.
